If you're looking for a slightly different take on Chinese cuisine, Golden Day could be just the ticket. This new restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue offers adventurous diners a flavour of the Hunan province. If you like food spicy and chilli-hot, this is your lucky day.

One of the eight great cuisines of China, Hunan is characterised by lashings of spices and chilli - you'll need a few glasses of water (or bottles of Tsingtao beer) to hand. The menu (a huge, hard-backed affair) is loaded with delicacies with names like Fire Exploded Beef Stew, Morning Glory and Marinated Pork Intestine Delicacy. (Happily, for those not 100% au fait with Hunan cuisine there are pictures too!)

We can heartily recommend the Dry Pot Tender Chicken, (anything but dry and certainly tender) and the Traditional Tasty Marinated Beef Slice would be better known as Traditional Utterly Delicious Marinated Beef Slice - it's that good. For diners looking for a deliciously different and adventurous Chinese meal, Golden Day will make your day.
