Monkey fans: make your own Journey to the West (End) post-show for the best in Far Eastern flavours

After a wildly popular run in Manchester, Paris, Charleston and London’s Royal Opera House, Monkey: Journey to the West is moving to a brand new venue: Monkey’s World at the O2 in London. The show runs from 13th November to 5th December and, thanks to its proximity to Chinatown, is a great opportunity to score a Chinese double by treating yourself to a post-performance meal in one of our eighty restaurants.

The musical and acrobatic extravaganza tells the epic, 16th century Chinese story of the Monkey King, a mischievous magical character who must redeem his misbehaviour by helping the monk Tripitaka bring the Holy Scriptures back to China. Accompanied by a vagabond crew of fallen angels- Sandy, Pigsy and the Dragon Prince - Monkey and Tripitaka must undergo a 14-year trek through demon-infested landscapes as Monkey learns to use his magical powers for the good of the world. The work of Gorillaz creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett and acclaimed director Chen Chen-Shi Zheng, it’s a bright, loud and dazzling mix of music, animation, visual effects, acrobatics and martial arts.

After you’ve treated your eyes and ears to the show’s circus theatrics, colourful characters and fantastically imaginative musical instruments, head west to Chinatown and treat your taste buds to another Far Eastern masterpiece cooked up in one of our restaurants. To get here from the O2, take the westbound Jubilee line from North Greenwich, change to the northbound Northern Line at Waterloo and hop out at Leicester Square.
